What is the Multiple-Victim Rescue Loft?
The Rescue Loft is a lifting device adapted from the
Swift Water Advanced Rescue Device, meant to be deployed
from higher elevations. The device consists of a net cube,
with SWARD net ladders on all four sides, and a sturdier
small-mesh net coupled to a SWARD net ladder on the bottom.
Because the device is collapsable, it can be easily transported
to the rescue area, and very rapidly deployed for rescue
operations. The design allows for a single operator
to fully expand and deploy the device upon arrival. When
the Rescue Loft is deployed on the scene, its net type
construction provides many strong hand and leg holds for
victims to hang on to. Once safely hanging on to the device,
victims can then enter the safer interior of the device.
Other rescue devices, such as ropes, ladders, or nets
can be added in a modular fashion to the bottom of the
Rescue Loft, extending the number of victims which can
be rescued in one operation. Flotation devices at the
lower corners of the device allows it to be lowered on
the surface of the water.

Applications
This multi-versatile safety device was designed for airborne
rescues from helicopter or elevated platforms. It is especially
good when the rescuer is in danger as well, allowing the
rescue operation to pick multiple victims in a shorter
amount of time. Both when the weather and the local conditions
are dangerous, the ability to move quickly can make all
the difference.

type device can be carried inside the helicopter, it still
